SARAH STUART

My form of therapy is art. I make art to escape from the hurt that I feel within myself. I use it as a way to express what words may not. It shows how hurt can eat away at us from the inside out until it takes over and shows itself on the outside. I’m not an artist that aims on showing only beautiful things but to show what hurt and mental disorders feel like and the perspective that I have on them.

"During this time, hope can feel like a foreign concept. At ALIVE MKE, they believe in giving the talent in the community opportunity and access to growing. I believe Art For Social Justice was created to do just that and build upon the great things that ALIVE MKE is already doing for the people in Milwaukee. When making this art piece, I had to reidentify what hope was for me, and through that, what hope was for the community, and we move forward together."
